It’s true, folks. Matcha is the new coffee.
Don’t get me wrong, I love making fancy vegan mochas with my espresso machine. It’s like a treat AND caffeine boost in one. However, the problem with espresso for me is that it gives me those mid-day coffee jitters, and leaves my mind racing at nighttime, interrupting my sleep. Since matcha tea naturally contains caffeine, the energy boost you obtain from matcha is actually due to a unique combination of caffeine with other nutrients. The feelings of energy and wakefulness one gets from a cup of matcha tea can last up to 6 hours, without the usual side effects of coffee. Although it’s been around for centuries, this super green powerhouse has become extremely popular among the Western population over the last few years. I love the creaminess of the almond milk mixed with the light sweetness of vanilla and agave, and I find it blends well with the vegetal taste of matcha.
